Applications / MilitaryUltraCell Corporation is under contract with a variety of U.S. Government sources to develop light-weight and portable power sources for our military. The U.S. Military is dependent on portable power for C4ISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) missions. For a typical 72 hour mission, requiring 20 Watts average power, each soldier requires 27 lbs of rechargeable military batteries (or 18 pounds of non-rechargeable batteries). Some platoons have designated individual soldiers solely to carry large loads of batteries for the platoon. Heavy, military batteries are currently being used in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the U.S. Military needs a light-weight, high power, environmentally friendly alternative to batteries. The UltraCell XX25™ Fuel Cell is designed to provide uninterrupted power to field computer and communications equipment for extended periods at a considerable weight advantage over existing battery solutions – 65% of weight savings over a typical 72 hour mission. The rugged design of the XX25 makes it suitable for the most demanding of environments, and its compatibility with night vision equipment permits around the clock usage in critical missions.
U.S. Military Validation:UltraCell is the first fuel cell company to receive a Safety Assessment Report from the U.S. Military. The UltraCell XX25 Fuel Cell is safe to use as a portable, man-wearable, power source. Read SAR Press Release. U.S. Military research labs, such as CERDEC, AFRL, and ARL, have tested UltraCell fuel cell systems. UltraCell is currently working with the U.S. Army CERDEC to field test the XX25 with SINCGARS radios, laptop computers, ground robots, and battery chargers. MIL-STD 810F Testing:
An accredited regulatory compliance laboratory has tested the UltraCell XX25 to MIL-STD 810F, and has proven it to be the most rugged, portable fuel cell system on the market today. Foreign Military Programs:UltraCell has entered a partnership agreement with ABSL Power Solutions Ltd. to provide fuel cells for soldier portable power as well as battery recharging solutions to military programs in the United Kingdom and across Europe.
